Search Doniphan County Criminal Dockets

Doniphan County criminal court dockets trace each Kansas state case from filing to finish: charges, hearings, pleas, and results. Start your docket search with the statewide public case system. The court name still matters, though, because city ordinance cases stay with municipal courts. For settings or paper files that never made it online, the district clerk is the office to call. Every search result is just an index entry. Read each one in the order the court recorded it, and the full story unfolds from there.

Criminal Dockets: What They Show

Think of a Doniphan County criminal docket as an index of court acts. Each entry can name the case, the public participants and their roles, counsel, the judge, hearings, charges, and disposition events. One caution: an events-index line proves a filing happened. It does not prove the paper is viewable online. For the public document itself, try the courthouse terminal or ask the clerk.

Case NumberNew DP-YYYY-CR-###### or older YYYY-CR-######
ChargeAlleged offense and count, if public
SettingsArraignment, pretrial, trial, or sentencing
PleaA recorded plea, distinct from judgment
DispositionDismissal, diversion, conviction, sentence, or other result

Always read the last public entry before assuming anything. A charge is not a conviction. A plea, a dismissal, diversion, a judgment, and a sentence are separate docket events, and a later order can change an earlier status.

Doniphan County Criminal Docket Outcomes

A charge is only an accusation, never proof of guilt. The real answer comes later. A guilty plea, a dismissal, a diversion or deferred adjudication, and a trial verdict each carry their own meaning on a Doniphan County criminal docket. Sentencing is a separate entry again. Reading the first charge line as the final outcome can flip the record's meaning entirely. Check the judgment entry before drawing any conclusion about how a case ended.

The state's official disposition report sorts those categories cleanly, which makes it a useful anchor. It leaves out pending cases, though. It was never meant to track all police activity. When you follow a Doniphan County court docket, read all the way through the newest public event. A later order can always change an earlier result.

Criminal Case Stages on the Docket

Not every Doniphan County criminal case hits every stage. Filing opens the case on the docket, and arraignment follows with a plea or a next court date. Pretrial entries might cover motions, discovery, or continuances. A plea or a trial then resolves the contested charges, the disposition entry records the result, and sentencing follows a conviction when the law requires it.

Docket flow: Filing › Arraignment › Pretrial › Plea or Trial › Disposition › Sentencing

A reset only moves a setting on the Doniphan County docket; the case itself still stands. A payment entry works the same way, since paying a fine does not replace the events index. Always confirm dates with the Doniphan clerk.

Doniphan County Criminal Docket Dispositions

For scale without any party names, the Kansas report ending June 30, 2024 breaks down how criminal cases resolved statewide. Doniphan County logged 57 felony dispositions: 33 by guilty plea, 16 dismissed, 5 through diversion or deferred results, and 2 other results. Misdemeanors came to 24 dispositions, including 10 guilty pleas, 5 dismissals, 8 diversion or deferred results, and 1 other result.

These figures are finished-case totals, not a live docket. Over the same span, the 22nd Judicial District, which covers four counties, logged 309 felony dispositions and 242 misdemeanor dispositions.

Doniphan County Criminal Docket Courts

Doniphan County District Court is where state criminal cases live. Clerk of District Court Michelle Smith runs the office that holds the Doniphan County district criminal docket inside the 22nd Judicial District. That same office also fields traffic, civil, probate, family, juvenile, small-claims, and protection matters. The access rules shift with each record type. City ordinance dockets sit with Kansas municipal courts instead. So location alone never tells you who the custodian is.

Start with the paperwork itself. A District Court citation points you toward Kansas Case Search and the courthouse in Troy. A municipal citation points to that city's clerk or municipal court. The state's county selector will not cough up a city ordinance docket just because the city sits inside Doniphan County. Federal crimes travel a different road entirely, through the U.S. District Court for the District of Kansas and PACER. Bankruptcy and federal appeals use their own federal routes.

The split matters most when a citation number comes up empty. Check the court name printed on the ticket. Do that before you retry spellings or rerun the search. Call the wrong clerk and you may get a truthful "no case here". The case may be alive and well in the other court's docket.

Older Doniphan County Criminal Dockets

Doniphan County joined Odyssey on July 11, 2022. That date split its criminal docket history in two. Files from before the switch carry one case-number format, newer ones another. Some older documents simply never made it online. A missing web document does not mean the court record vanished. Kansas guidance places a public-search terminal in each courthouse. The record may exist at the terminal even when the guest portal shows nothing. That access has limits. A terminal opens public material only; it never unlocks sealed or confidential files.

Run searches in both number formats and clear stray filters. If you copied a case number off old paper, search by party name inside a filing-year range instead. Then visit the terminal at 120 E. Chestnut Street in Troy. The second-floor District Court Office keeps 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. weekday hours except holidays. It helps to bring the case number, party name, rough year, and the exact filing you want. Call first about printing and copies, since Doniphan posts no current printing price or terminal location.

When a docket entry shows but its document does not, ask which of three things is true. The answer might be terminal-only, available by written request, or outside the electronic conversion range. Those are different answers. A request naming one order, judgment, motion, or sentencing entry gets processed faster. A demand for everything tied to a name takes longer.

Doniphan County Criminal Docket Settings

Doniphan County posts no public daily criminal calendar. The official route is a phone call to 785-985-3582. Keep the case number, full name, hearing type, and your notice in hand. Ask for the date, time, location, and current setting type. Kansas Hearing Reminders can help once you know a setting. But signing up does not confirm the current date or replace a notice from the court.

A portal can display the history of a reset while an older setting still sits beside the new one. So read the event dates and statuses in order. Calendars from Troy, Highland, Wathena, and Elwood are municipal schedules. They are not the Doniphan County District Court criminal docket.

Confirm before travel: A setting can be reset, continued, or canceled. The clerk’s current record controls.

Access Rules for Criminal Dockets

Kansas opens most criminal dockets to the public, though not all of them. Rule 22 governs electronic access. Juvenile cases, grand-jury matters, search warrants, sealed files, and protected cases may be excluded. Expungement can keep a result out of public view. The Kansas expungement statute sets out those limits in full.

The statute also explains why an empty guest search is not proof that no proceeding ever occurred. The juvenile records provision carries the same point.

Juvenile access follows special rules, not the standard adult search path.

The terminal is one access level and a written request is another. Give the court, case number, record type, dates, and how you want delivery. The Kansas request form offers email, mail, pickup, and fax, but Doniphan sets no single copy price. Ask for an estimate. K.S.A. 22-2601 governs where prosecution is brought.

That statute helps place prosecution venue, though the case caption remains the best route for a docket search. The White Cloud City Hall entry offers a municipal fallback for city matters.
